About
What is ActionQuest: ATL?
ActionQuest is an activist “Big Game” that takes place in Atlanta during the U.S. Social Forum (http://www.ussf2007.org), June 28-July 1, 2007. ActionQuest provides a novel, fun and engaging way for the 15,000-plus attendees of the USSF to get to know each other and Atlanta and to think about their work in a new way, and a means for Atlantans to see their city in a new light through the lens of play and social activism. Another world is possible. ActionQuest aims to make that other world visible by lighting up Atlanta with the power of play, a renewable resource for social change.
ActionQuest consists of a variety of quests that vary in length, intensity, experiential style and context or venue. Some take place in a fixed location and/or a fixed time; most are open-ended and can be done repeatedly in different places throughout the city. Players sign up for quests, and receive points for each Action completed within a quest, as well as bonus points for additional game-related actions, such as recruiting new players into the game. Players collect evidence of each quest action as called for by the quest instructions and mark the spot with the Action Map symbol. They then send their evidence back into the game via e-mail from their phone or computer, via the web site through an upload, or by bringing their evidence back to one of the two Base Camps. Each piece of evidence is tagged with the player’s game name.
